Hmm... Well, he was supposed to abandon his memories of a previous reality in order to allow a miracle to occur. The world was born anew, but he and his compatriots forgot the lives they led before...

Except Tatsuya, because he just couldn't let go, and this led to a string of misfortune that nearly doomed the world all over again.

In the end, he made the selfless choice, but that did render the Tatsuya of the new world without any recollection of all things demons, Shadows, and Personas. To rekindle those memories would once again put the fate of the world at risk.

Perhaps the Tatsuya Suou present here is simply before the weight of his innocent sin truly bore punishing fruit. Not that I can't relate.

One might argue that my own chosen path is equally as "selfish," but I'm much too stubborn to let that stop me.
