"I am sorry," he says but he's not even looking at her. Shame blooming within him. "You shouldn't have witnessed that but I wasn't sure how you would have reacted if I suddenly tried to get away from you."
"It's just..." His voice breaks again as he steels himself to breathe. "...death has been my way out before. I- I don't know why I can't anymore." He's reminded of Wakaba again and how she had looked at him with that smile before jumping in front of traffic. "I am sorry."
