No luck - there was a firm, solid block, the physical shimenawa expanding to completely and wholly block progress forward. They weren't evil spirits (as far as Hamuko knew) but... with Maruki's assessment, evidenced by the glow to his eyes, she knew there was something beyond the shimenawa.
