Maybe because Ren hasn't made a secret of how much he hates Maruki, and he never thought to clarify that Maruki was included. But it didn't occur to him then, and it doesn't occur to him now, that all of that might be an issue. He's still pissed off, but less like he's ten seconds from breathing fire in Maruki's face and more simply... flummoxed.
