[Open] Distant Memories
(TW: Dissociative episode possibly?)
It's a quiet day. That's all Dove really thinks to himself in a distant sense as he walks throughout the cognitive Tokyo. His steps lead him from one place to another, each far too fast for him to have realistically reached each place. Not that he's paying much attention anyway, he's far too distracted for it...
...Each place, each place he finds himself wondering, trying to draw out something that's too far away for him to reach.
Ren's face isn't blurry or anything to him, not anymore... but he can't grasp who he is. Anything more than his face feels too far away for him to reach. Hell, he's not even entirely sure why he's latched on so tightly to Ren. It's not as though he remembers him. It's not as though he has more than a couple tangible memories to point to.
--
An oh so familiar smile-- or rather a smirk-- appears in his mind as his eyes trail Leblanc as he steps up to it.
He finds himself sitting inside for a while, still thinking to himself all the while... The air of the cafe has become far too familiar, considering he still visits it frequently.
There's no Sojiro, Futaba, Morgana, or Wakaba here like there would be back home. Perhaps that's a good thing, part of him muses. He's not sure he'd want to face anyone back home right now anyway, given the degree of separation between him and the rest of his world now.
He doesn't drink coffee as he sits at the counter. He doesn't go upstairs. He just sits there, lost in his thoughts. Perhaps if he stares across the other side of the counter long enough, maybe he'll see Ren there. Why would he though? He doesn't know, it just feels right... He really can almost see him there, apron and all...
It's his plan to just sit there for a while, and try to get the memories to return to him... Truth be told, he could use some coffee, but he doesn't tend to make it well.
He quietly sighs.
--
Eventually he leaves Leblanc, finding his aimless mind unable to settle and focus. He continues walking, and his steps feel as though they make him travel leaps and bounds without effort. He doesn't linger on it, he's too deep into the haze of his own thoughts and his strangely distant feelings to truly notice it.
The Aquarium comes into view, and without much thought he steps in. No need for money or tickets, he can just step in without a care. He feels about as lively as the various cognitions around him, going with the flow as he stops next to one of the various tanks.
The swimming fish draw him in, grounding him slightly. He blinks, shaking his head. He needs to get a grip... He shouldn't be moping around, he should be focused and trying to solve the problem. Figure out how to awaken him.
And yet, as he thinks this to himself, he almost swears he sees Ren's reflection beside him in the tank. He tries to focus on the swimming fish, but his eyes are drawn to his side, to which there is no Ren.
So instead, he forces himself to focus on the aquarium. Perhaps it's not the most fun being there alone.
--
The aquarium keeps him longer than he expects, and he finds himself traveling elsewhere. He's getting drained, and his footsteps are growing more sluggish as he begins feeling fatigue kick in. He's been in a weird mindset all day, and he's frankly tired of walking.
He finds himself in front of the subway... and again, that strange feeling overtakes him. Like he's staring at something else. Dove nearly stepped into the subway, but instead he turns around, staring somewhat blankly at the space ahead of him.
Whispers of words echo through his head, ones he can't quite place off the top of his head, but again, he feels as though he could imagine Ren right across from him...
He outreaches a hand, and for a second, it feels familiar. He stands there for a moment, just... trying to grasp for it. For a second he almost swears he's almost there...
He probably stands out like a sore thumb, standing there.
