[EVENT] 'Tis the Spooky Season...

Autumn is drawing on in the Velvet Room and its environs. The days are colder, the nights are crisper, leaves are a riot of colour ready to fall from the trees. And (besides all the pumpkin spice popping up for some reason) that means only one thing: Hallowe'en!

As the season approaches, you may undergo a mysterious transformation. Perhaps you wake up with wings, or hooves, or gills! Or perhaps your transformation will change more, go deeper... perhaps to your very soul. Who can tell? You might wake up as an animal, or a mythological creature. Or as anything at all.

Transformations will reverse on the morning of November 1st. ~~Probably.~~

In the meantime, Destinyland is celebrating the holiday. Cheerful Jack-o'-Lantern Shadows have set up on street corners, handing out flyers advertising the park's seasonal festivities. In the days leading up to the 31st, Destinyland will host all the usual fun: Hallowe'en games, Trick or Treat for the babies (and the not-so-babey), the Gorb fortune teller, Shadow-run food stalls serving spooky meals and treats, and, of course, the haunted house with its array of friendly, candy-giving Shadows. Or maybe they're not so friendly.

On the night of Hallowe'en itself, there will be a parade at the park and a grand party out in the main square with food, music, and plenty of space, though characters are not obliged to attend. However, if you wish to show off your new form, see what transformations have been wrought on your fellow guests, or simply take the chance to celebrate, it may be a good opportunity...

Who knows? Perhaps you'll even see some special guests.

There will be a toplevel, and guest characters are simply whisked into the setting to engage in festivities, with a slight ghostly aura. For an example, see the thread here from last year!]

Perhaps you were minding your business back home, when the wind howled, or you heard the faint giggles and saw a flash of pumpkin in the corner of your eye...

Regardless, you are here now, with an invitation in hand welcoming you to enjoy the festivities, with room and board provided in one of the park's many luxury hotels.

Feel free to ask around. Perhaps a resident will clear the air, though you're more than welcome to draw your own conclusions...

The important thing is that you have fun.

A. Feral Kitten

Raven knew Halloween was on the horizon. If it was anything like last year, there'd be another grand ball and an opportunity to show off his impeccable Featherman costume, but when he wakes up on the morning of October 25th, something feels... off.

For starters, he feels much too hot. Grumpily, he throws off the blanket, but as he does so, he notices something very off.

Fluffy, brown fur all over his arms and even poking out from the collar of his shirt. But that's not all. His fingers are... thicker, stubbier, like a human hand fused with a cat's paw, and when he turns his hands over and sees pink pawpads, he grunts out a startled, "What the fu—" But he has to stop himself. There are small children here.

But the fur puffs up. Something's sticking out from the base of his spine, swishing and making contact with things. A new limb. A tail? And he reaches up, pats his face...

That is a cold, wet nose. A muzzle. His ears no longer sit on the side of his head, but on top, just like a cat's. His usual hair is still there, but lost in the fluffy fur that now covers him from head to toe.

"...You have got to be kidding me."

At least he can still stand upright, he finds, when he finally makes his way downstairs, but the whiskers poking out of his face combined with the pads on the bottoms of his feet make the act of moving around so strange. Not to mention the way his socks feel against those pads...

And when he makes it down to the kitchen, he raids the fridge for fish. So overcome with hunger is he that he starts tearing into it without even grabbing a plate or silverware.

How dignified.

B. Investigation

Once Raven spots his invitation, it's only natural that he scope out the area. Normally, he'd dress warmly this time of year, but all this fur makes him much to hot, so he settles for a loose-fitting Featherman T-shirt and some shorts, along with his shoes. Yes, he is still going to at least try to appear civilized!

Even if subtle movements make his eyes dilate and give him the urge to make chase, and even if all the new scents and sounds are a bit overwhelming.

The sight of Destinyland decorated in spooky fashion with friendly Shadows milling about still beckons him further. This is so much bigger than last year...

So, naturally, he can be found zooming about and... perching? Yes. He can be found perched on top of some of the food stalls and games and at one point he even looks up at the top of the Haunted House, seeing another opportunity to climb.

...It's just to get a good view of the park. Efficiency, not cat instincts!

C. Wild Card

Feel free to come up with other prompts as well! Raven will be out and about.

There's figure hiding in the shadows of Destinyland, one that blends in almost entirely within, bright red eyes peeking carefully from within the darkness.

There's a gleam of light reflected from the metal of her scythe, which is gripped tightly in her hands... as she finally begins stepping into the light of the sun...

Option 1: As Briar steps through the amusement park, she leaves a trail of shadow-like energy behind her, the friendly Shadows stopping and eying her out of curiosity... or perhaps some sort of kinship.

She stops, looking up towards the ferris wheel with a quiet look on her face, her eyes distant as she rests her scythe on her shoulder. She... wouldn't mind riding it, but she couldn't bear to ask anyone to join her. Especially not like this.

She lowers her head and her grip around the scythe tightens as she purses her lips.

Option 2: She continues along, hoping to avoid any real people. She can feel the draw of death, the feeling that it's time for some to have already passed, and she knows she can't give into that feeling. She's afraid of hurting her friends. The people she cares about.

So if you see her, you may notice that she might be trying to slink away from you rather than approach. How odd...

A. I am... thou? (Both)

When Crow first awakens, he feels sharper than usual nails brush up against his scalp. The memory link at least informs him of his younger self's transformation, but whereas Raven found himself covered in fur, Crow's head feels heavier than usual. Sore, even.

He straightens himself, glancing down at his hands, only to find his arms and upper torso white and covered in stripes. His legs feel... off as well. He can't feel his toes. In fact, it's as if they've all fused together and elongated. His hips feel wider, too.

Grunting, he stumbles out of bed, taking the blankets with him... and promptly falls over due to the lack of adjustment to his now digitigrade legs coupled with the extra weight from the horns on his head.

THUD.

The sound jolts Hiro from his slumber, but like Crow, he's changed as well. In addition to six angelic wings that fly open at the sudden sound, two long, segmented horns now protrude from the sides of his head.

He and Crow stare at one another. Both still have their usual faces and hair, though Crow's eyes are now yellow, and though his lips hide it well, his teeth have sharpened significantly.

Ren is certainly in for a surprise.

After the initial kerfuffle with waking up, Crow can be found stumbling about the house with Hiro awkwardly staying close by to provide balance, even though he has his own extra weight to worry about, with the wings and horns.

"Hiro, is this really necessary?"

"Yes. I'm not going to have you hurt yourself."

At least they're both dressed, though with Crow's now Loki-like legs, he can't wear his typical socks. Alas!

At least Hiro is... mostly better on that front, even if he's presently shirtless.

Even when they leave the house, Hiro hovers close by for a while, even if his wings get stuck in doorways on more than one occasion.

B. Everything is Fine (Crow)

Crow is adamant that he can handle this. He is carrying a walking stick just to help balance himself, but it's all just a matter of time until he adapts.

"Honestly, how hard can it be? It's just like walking on tiptoes..."

He's trying to explore Destinyland, but he's already awkwardly tripped into an apple bobbing bucket once already. He is not going to go through it again!

Give him a hand?

C. Taking Flight...? (Hiro)

Hiro has decided that if he he has wings, he might as well put them to good use, which is exactly why he can be found standing on top of the castle in Destinyland, legs bent and wings at the ready.

"Surely all I have to do is get a running start and put these wings to use..."

He tries just that, running, leaping, spreading those wings...

Only to start dropping, flailing in ridiculous fashion as he tries and fails to keep his wings in sync.

Better look out below!

You know, reading about hearing about strange events are vastly different then experiencing them yourself.
And he’s getting a taste of that firsthand when he wakes up as some fucking DOG.
No, correction, Hannei is the one who looks more like a dog, he’s some fucking dog demon!

Perhaps a hellhound? Robin Hood helpfully suggests because Loki is too busy laughing historically at the irony of Hannei resembling Fenrir.

He’s going to kill Igor. He’s going to fucking KILL HIM-
As soon as he figures out how to open the door without thumbs. Maybe he can burn it down with these flames swirling around his fur coat.

1. Out in the wild
If your out and about in the Tokyo area it’d probably be hard to miss the large skeletal flaming hound wondering around with the angriest expression you’ve ever seen.
… and a striped tie Akechi is always seen in. Approach the angry hellhound at your own risk. He likely wishes to visit mementos but well, a lack of thumbs makes phone navigation tricky. Perhaps someone could assist?

2. At Destinyland
He followed Hannei here, mostly because she seemed far more excited to explore than he did, but he still doesn’t want to let her out of his sight while whatever this is is still going on……
He lost her immediately. God Damnit.
Well. If he must explore he might as well, he’s specially since the park seems to be appropriately spooky.
He’s never really gone to a theme park before… not like he could ride anything as he is now but well, perhaps there’s something to do.

3. Free space
If you have any other prompt ideas for the angry hellhound boy feel free to pitch one!

Ren is in for a surprise, indeed. He might be a heavy sleeper, but suddenly getting jabbed in the sides by multiple things that weren't there before has its way of waking him up.

"Ack--!"

Dove has found himself in quite a pickle. Nearly transparent, unable to hold anything... It's quite a mess. Honestly, he's not even sure anyone can see or hear him. It's been a bit of a stressful development, and he certainly can't say that this entire thing has been fun.

Just as he was nearly about to start looking for a place to sit and attempt to relax, however, something zooms by out of the corner of his eye... and naturally he can't help but be rather curious about it. After all, it's the first sign of anything that isn't a Shadow or cognition since he arrived in Destinyland.

As he follows in the direction he thought he saw the figure go, he finds nothing. Or at least, not at first. He looks about, until he happens to take a look upward... only to find a certain cat boy at the top of the Haunted House.

"...Raven-kun? Is that you?"

He can't help but call out to him from the ground, though Raven may have a hard time spotting Dove at first. After all, he's a ghost. He probably blends in very well with his surroundings as a specter.

"Hey." Uhm, this is awkward. Ren's perched -- quite literally -- on the back of a chair, trying to precariously balance his way to getting the fridge open, wings aflutter and talons gripping tight. "Can you get me the cereal...?"

"Ah... Apologies, Ren." Goro grabs onto the side of the bed, trying to pull himself up.

"It seems we've changed to suit the season." Hiro looks back at his... Six wings. That's quite a lot.

Hannei has been rattled before, but it’s still really weird to her when she’s turned into a critter. The mouse was a little fun but honestly, this is new.
Waking up to find not only has Akechi been turned into some large hellhound looking thing, but herself turned into a big… dog? Wolf dog, when she looked into a mirror she looked more like a wolfdog if you asked her. Either way this is kind of strange!
But on the other hand, she has a lot of new senses she’s curious about! Maybe this is a chance to explore things a whole new way!
Fenrir is all to eager to explore, to see what this body is capable of, and she agrees! Let’s go!
…as soon as she figure out how to open a door with paws.

1. Out and about.
Even if it’s cognitive, Tokyo is full of sights and smells! So of course she’d be jogging around taking it all in! Might as well make the most of the situation right? Akechi is mad enough that she has full faith he’s probably going to find out what’s going on, so she’s going to explore! You can find her around tokyo with her little neck scarf thing taking to this whole dog thing fairly well all things considered.

2. Theme park!!
As soon as she saw that invitation she knew where they had to go next! She’s never been to a theme park! And this place is brimming with Halloween treats and cheer! She might have ran off ahead and lost sight of Akechi. Whoops. Oh well! She can easily find him again! He smells like brimstone! So to no one’s surprised there’s an energetic wolf dog zooming around, probably sniffing or chasing whatever she can find. Approach at your own risk.

3. Free space
I’d you have any other prompt ideas for wolf dog Hannei feel free to pitch one!

Morning arrives, and Dove doesn't notice anything wrong at first. He gets out of bed, and begins trying to make coffee... and that's where it all goes wrong. He can't grab the coffee mug.

No matter what he does, his hand goes through the coffee mug. In fact, it goes through everything. He cannot lift a single thing. In fact, he can go through his counter. He can look into the apartment next to him... Which he accidentally does, seeing Jinx in it. He looks extremely pale, absentmindedly nomming on... is that... leftover hamburgers? Not even heated up?

Dove debates and greeting him good morning, but it seems like Jinx is having a morning of sorts, so he decides to let him be... and try to figure out what's going on. Thankfully, it isn't long before he finds the invitation to the festivities.

Oh. Oh dear. It seems Igor is having some fun with an event again...

All right. With a quiet breath (Or at least he tries to take one), he takes a step out of his apartment.

Option 1: As Dove steps into Destinyland, he can't help but be a bit taken in by the amusement park's Halloween setup. He can't help but remember the times he visited Destinyland as a child with his mother, and... wait... No, he probably shouldn't think too deeply. Chances are the memory is fake to begin with...

He can be seen wandering around the entrance area, just taking it all in...

So he walks along, looking at the Shadows, the cognitions, looking for a familiar face as he takes a good look around.

Option 2: As the day continues, Dove finds himself in a predicament. He can't exactly engage with most of the rides or other activities because he's a ghost. The only things he can do are the things that involve sitting. The ferris wheel, rollercoasters, and such. It's a shame he can't participate in some of the other activities that require props or controls, but he supposes it's better than nothing.

He seems to be debating his options, where to go from here... What ride would be best? Truth be told, has he ever gone on a ride before? He has the memories of some, but... he gets the feeling they were all lies. He has no idea what he's done or hasn't done. So, with that in mind...

He wonders if it'd be childish to try to ride one of them. Part of him feels a bit of embarrassment at the idea, but at the same time... It's a bit of the childhood he never got to have, deep down.

There's just a pensive look on his face as he looks about the area, eying various rides in the distance.

A) oh boy oh boy oh boy

Futaba just couldn't contain her excitement. Her suddenly new tail wagged behind her, wacking things off tables, knocking things over, as she tried to chase it to make it stop. Her purple eyes had doubled, a trait that probably linked back to a certain demon. Her ears bounced as she ran around the house. Her energy was boundless.

B) it's hard being a dog 🐕

She wandered outside, everything was so much... smellier. It had new scents, and she loved tracking things, she followed things and stared at things that ran across her vision. Seeing a wider range helped in that regard. There was also new sounds, she thought it was quiet before but as she had learned it very much was not. People walked very loudly.

Hannei is just exploring and wondering if she ate candy in this form if she’d get sick like an actual dog since she read that they can’t eat chocolate or something when she spots a familiar face.
“Dove-San!” She yells out to him, and in what she can only assume is because of pure doggy joy, she charges over to him, tail wagging behind her.
She tries to skid to a stop before she ends up tackling him though, but not soon enough as she slides into- and right through him. Ough that’s weird.
She blinks once. Twice. And now that she’s stopped in her tracks and closer, looks up at Dove and flicks an ear.
“So… ghost huh?” Says the wolfdog.
Man this event is strange.

Well, he lost Hannei in the theme park. But he’s less stressed about it because it seems he can track her down much easier in this form.
He’s going to think this is thanks to Robin Hood somehow getting a boost and not the fact he’s some sort of dog beast right now.
Honestly a lot of his senses feel stronger like this, it’s a bit of a headache.
So naturally seeing some sort of catboy perched on a food stand gets his attention.
… screw it, he refuses to be alone in his thoughts about this stupid gimmick he’s been subjected to. He approaches Raven, trying not to be as intimidating as a flaming skeletal fuzzy hellhound can be Anyways.

“Oh good, I wasn’t the only one caught up in cognitive bullshit” is what he greets with, because no he still isn’t happy about this! Even if he’s less broody than he was at first.
But he’s not bothering with any pleasant persona, fuck that.

A. I'm batty

Ren know both Halloween and his birthday (which is on Halloween) was coming up, and even picked out a costume for fun. This was something he couldn't do last year, but now he can. Especially since he'll be officially 18, despite still being physically 16.

However, he woke up one morning with bat wings on his back. Which is fitting since he is a vampire, but also annoying as he had to modify his clothes, and the costume, so he could still wear it. Hopefully this ends up being temporary.

He finds the invite and heads to Destinyland. He's dressed in a cowboy costume. Not only because it's not what you expect a vampire to wear, but also because of that book he recently finished reading. Complete with a cowboy hat.

At first things seem fine, but then he notices a couple of friendly shadow who seem scared of him. He tries to talk gently and calm them down.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna eat you."

He made sure to have plenty of blood beforehand.

B. Happy Birthday to Me

Somehow it was known that it's his birthday because when he tried out one of the games, he got handed a present by the cognition.

"Happy birthday!"
"Uh...thanks?"

Granted he was mostly planning on having some fun and then getting some cake or treat for himself.

A. Bug out
Shiho was debating on whenever to do anything for Halloween this year as she didn't really have much interest. However, it seems fate decided to help with the decision as she woke up with a pair of antennae, two extra sets of arms, a mandible (insect mouth part) and ladybug wings. It seems she's been turned into a bug girl. A ladybug to be exact.

"What the hell?!"

Once she stopped freaking out, she had to modify her clothes so she can go out. Luckily she knew enough sewing to make it work.

She arrives at Destinyland, not in a costume, but at least she's fully dressed. She's awkwardly looking around, with all three sets of arms crossed. She's not sure what she'll be able to eat, but at least she can hopefully distract herself from her situation.

"Man..."

B. Candy
Well one thing she found she can eat for sure is candy, as she accepts some from one of the friendly shadows. Granted, it's more awkward due to her current situation.

"I really hope this wears off soon. I can't just live off on candy."

She really does need some real food in her soon.

Oh. That's... one of the Akechis, but a ghost? He has to hunch over and lean to get a clearer view, but... hmm. Interesting. And also rather cruel.

"Yes, it's me." He makes a face, tail swishing back and forth. "I believe Yu Narukami cursed me to this fate."

"You're..." He stares, tail flicking a little and eyes dilating at those wings. Big, fluttering wings. Big, enticing, fluttering wings—

But Ren asked for help, and Ren seems significantly more awkward with all these changes.

"Certainly." He'll just... move over to the cabinet to fetch the cereal and a bowl as an added courtesy. "I'd say I envy your wings, but they look rather cumbersome."

"I'm starting to wonder if Igor wants to turn this place into a petting zoo or a circus act at this rate." Raven stays on his perch, in part because dog, but on the other hand... flaming, skeletal dog.

That's cool.

He leans forward with intrigue.

"I suppose I should be grateful I still have thumbs, but showers are sure to be a nightmare."

"I don't have opposable thumbs," Ren says, scooting over and hopping off the chair to let Goro through. "I like your ears. And tail."

Curiously, he reaches a talon-covered foot out to stroke the tail. Softly.

"Oh, thank—" He stiffens for a sec when Ren touches his tail, but relaxes after a moment. "This is going to take some getting used to."

Stroke. Ren's talons run down the length of Goro's tail, delicate. "It's not permanent, is it?"

"No, it's probably just for Halloween." His tail arcs into the touch. "If Yu was here, he'd find it so funny, I'm sure."

Ren's tail feathers shake, and he keeps awkwardly stroking Goro's tail. "He's the one who called you a kitty?"

"Yes. He compared me to a feral kitten when we first met." Huff. His ears fold back, but the stroking is nice, at least. Relaxing, even.
