[EVENT] On the first day of Christmas...

Winter has been drawing in for quite a while, and even here, Christmas is inescapable. What's going on?

The day before

  • Snow is falling... all around. It's a freezing cold evening, and the air is still—except for the blizzard outside. Will you stay home in the warmth, watching the snow fall and the frost form on the windows? Or will you head out into the whirling night? Visibility is next to nothing, but you'll probably be fine... as long as you don't go too far.

  • The next day

  • Snow has fallen! It lies everywhere you look, inches-deep, from Tokyo to Mikage-cho. The air is still, and the sky is a clear, wintry blue. Doesn't look like it's going to warm up any time soon. But that means a snow day. You'll be fine, as long as you wrap up warm. Do you want to make a snowman sledge, skate or ski? Waterways are frozen solid, and if you can get to the right store, you'll find the equipment you need. Or maybe you want to keep it closer to home, with snowmen tea-tray sleds and snow angels? Just try not to kill any rivals or near-rivals with a snowball.

  • Snow also drifts gently from the ceiling of the Velvet Room, fading before touching the floor. Festive, unseen sleigh bells clash unnervingly with the usual elegiac piano melody. Igor watches on with his trademark knowing smile—the festivities are just beginning....

  • In Iwatodai Mall, Inaba Shopping District, and Station Square, there are Jack Frosts around the place, along with chilly-looking Pixies, Onmoraki, and many other assorted demons. They have large sacks, or toolboxes, or planks of wood; they work merrily in hard hats, and whisper and giggle amongst themselves, and watch you as you pass. What could they be up to?

  • Christmas trees now stand in all the open spaces, hung about with baubles and lights. Illuminations are up, too, on every building, across every street, between streetlamps, you name it. More urban areas, like Tokyo or Sumaru, are as dazzling as you'd expect. But it isn't just the real world—all cognitive zones are suddenly hung with countless tiny lights as well. Probably not a good sign.... then again, the inhabitants seem strangely reluctant to fight you.

...Maybe something's interfering with his cognition? Something that's keeping him from moving or even thinking.

[A thought crosses her mind. She takes out her phone, but then stops. She can't text from here. Drat!

    She'll tuck it away, then.]

If you can tell me more about him, it might help. I'd ask my senpai about it, but I've still been kinda unsure how to approach them since they kinda... well. It's complicated.

I don't want to talk about him! I fucking hate him. I want him dead.

[Yeah... he's calmer because of her, but the thing walking in what should be his body still repels him.]

W-why would you want him dead?

[Goodness! This poor Shadow is... well. He'd probably have a Palace normally. It's kinda surprising that he doesn't.]
    pheasantboy: ([陰] sad)

    [personal profile] pheasantboy 2023-12-19 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Because he's like you. Everything cut away, so he never knows he was unhappy. But that's all that counts, isn't it? [He turns to go, rather than blinking away.]

He's better off where he is. I'm certainly better off. Put a bullet in his head, if you find him.
    midnightmaiden: (serious)

I won't do that. I'd rather find a way you can be whole again.

[Darn it! He's so stubborn. So... hmph. Well, Kasumi's not giving up that easily!]

He didn't ask to be like this. At least, that's what it sounds like. And I'm sure if I talk to him, he'll understand. Maybe he'll even want to know who he was before.
    pheasantboy: ([陰] smash!)

    [personal profile] pheasantboy 2023-12-19 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
    No! Never! I won't!

[He's supposed to be dead. He deserves to be dead. Reuniting with that thing is the last thing he wants. There's a bright flash as he loses his form, and then he's gone.

He'll come back for the cake eventually, if she leaves it.]
    midnightmaiden: (uneasy)

[Kasumi leaves the cake. It's the least she could do, but this is... concerning.

Before long, she exits Mementos. She opens her phone, and she... texts the one person she suspects may know what to do.]

Kasumi Yoshizawa: Um, Senpai? Sorry to bother you, but there's something I wanted to ask you about.

Goro Akechi: Yoshizawa-san, this is a surprise.
    Goro Akechi: What is it?

Kasumi Yoshizawa: Well, I met this other you... he had glowing eyes and was really aggressive, and he said there was another part of him that's lost somewhere. Not asleep. Not comatose, and not unconscious either. He's just not thinking, I think? Or something else is wrong.
Kasumi Yoshizawa: I was just wondering if you had any idea what that was about.

[It takes several moments before she gets a reply.]

Goro Akechi: Yoshizawa-san, with all due respect, is feigning ignorance really going to accomplish anything in a place like this?
Goro Akechi: But yes, I'm familiar. He is a version of me who has suffered a severe cognitive anomaly, to a point that certain aspects of this place and the people here cause him to 'blank out,' for lack of a better word.
Goro Akechi: If his Shadow cannot sense his thoughts and feelings, then one can only assume that he is perpetually stuck in such a state, which means he must be somewhere that is actively triggering an episode. If not Mementos, then...

[Shit. Is he really onto her?

...Oh, who is she kidding? Of course he is. Akechi is far from stupid, and it's not as though she hasn't slipped up a few times. But that's not the important part!]

Kasumi Yoshizawa: I might know a place. I got stuck there for a while, during that weird extra hour. There's this tower, and I guess if you don't get out of there before that hour ends, you're just trapped.
Kasumi Yoshizawa: Thanks, Senpai. You've given me a lot to think about.

[With that, she tucks her phone away and makes her way out of the station. She has a lot to consider now, but still hours to go before she can act.]
