There's a new presence in the shadows of the Velvet Room tonight.

For a while, there's no obvious sign of this... presumably a person, just the feeling that something is watching from the darkness, listening to whatever cryptic platitudes Igor's spouting about the place tonight. Eventually, though, the presence announces itself as... an Akira, looking at the conspiracy board.

Or maybe he's a Ren? (He's both. He's neither. He's pretty sure Igor is the closest to a familiar entity here. Making connections? That's not going to be a problem at all.)

"...I have no idea what most of this means," he's forced to conclude after several minutes. "Cool."

Alice was stepping back into the Velvet Room from the cognitive Tokyo when she notices that there's someone that looks an awful lot like Ann's friend Kurusu. Haru had already given her a little bit of the rundown when she got here, so it's probably not her Kurusu. She straightens her leather jacket and brushes her skirt off. Her fingerless gloves enter her vision as she taps him on the shoulder.

"Lost?" She asks him politely, given that he does indeed, look pretty bewildered.

"Oh, I'm probably where I need to be. I just have no idea what most of this board is talking about."

Really, the stuff about names is the most comprehensible. Names have power, after all, and you have to know what kind of power it is.

"So you aren't sure where you are then." Alice may have the wonderland theme going on with her personas but she isn't personally a fan of the chesire cat act that this Kurusu seems to have going on.

"Anyway um. The board seems to have details from the lives of everyone here. This may sound a little stupid, but we're all from different realities. This Velvet Room place seems to exist in between them." She didn't tell him the rhyme or reason that anyone was brought here because as far as Haru had explained to her there really was none. "Is there something in particular on the board that catches your eye?"

"Oh, not in the slightest. But if I'm here, I probably need to be." It just stands to reason, is all. He'll make it work.

"That bit about the coffins doesn't make any sense at all. But it seems like it didn't make much sense to the person who wrote it, either."

[brothergoro]

oh cool, someone new. This could be fun. He walked up next to him. "I think it's made by one of the kids." He looked over it, a small smirk seeing the new additions from the first time he saw it. "So are you an Akira, or a Ren?" he asks pointing to the note about the names.

Akira does a slight double-take. That's - Crow, except really, really not. Crow's not human, for one thing.

"Both. Neither. Depends on my mood and what the situation calls for."

[brothergoro]

He had to hide his amusement at the double take. He now sees why Crow liked to greet people. "Fair enough, it wouldn't shock me if there were more who used both names, I haven't really met any Akiras, just a Ren, and now you. Which do you want to be called?"

[fogbornphantom]

"Do you want me to break it down into something more comprehensible?" So says the Akechi... in a Shujin High School uniform, with a little ring over one of his gloves. A rather new addition.

"How many of you are there," Akira mutters, more to himself than anything.

But then he's back to Human-Peopleing. "I'd appreciate the effort, if you're willing."

[fogbornphantom]

"We're the majority by far. I think there's close to a dozen of me? Versions of you are fairly common, but not quite on the same level." Heh. Still, there's a lil' smirk as he surveys this new Ren-Akira-whatever he is. "I suppose the question is where you'd like clarification."

[He's been spending a bit of his time here, just contemplating the conspiracy board. Coming up with theories and ideas is one of the few past times he can still enjoy.

So of course he notices when a... a Joker shows up. Akechi himself is just leaning on a wall on the other side of the room, silent and easy to miss. Almost translucent, sometimes.]

Another new arrival? [He hums faintly.] Welcome to the club.

Are there badges?

[And does he need to be worried about the fact that this Crow appears to be dead? Or at least tapping into a very different power set than Akira's used to.]

[Yeah, he probably should be. He moves closer though, examining the board again.]

No, but apparently we get nicknames. Because there's too many of us to get to use our own names. Though I think, personally, whoever's furthest along on the timeline should get priority.

[Which is him, he assumes. Screw seniority based on time here, he's the deepest into the timeline. He... assumes.]

Akira doesn't know how lucky he is that he didn't show up a day or two ago. Ren isn't happy, but at least he's not as much... like he was. He stops in the Velvet Room doorway and tilts his head at the unmistakable sight of a new guy.

"Wow. You're not even an Akechi or anything."

...Okay, this is almost weirder than the collection of Crows. Can they also be called a murder?

"A who?"

[willowandoak]

...What.

"You don't know your Akechi?" Ren is visibly thrown by that. The only other version of him who hasn't met his Akechi back home is the literal five-year-old. "Uh. Brown hair, usually about down to here—" He indicates with a hand. "—brown eyes, real smart, a huge pain in the ass? Any of that ring a bell?"

[pancakeboy]

Oh look, it's the centre of the universe. The universe, if you please, not these others. Except it's really not.

Akechi steps alongside him all the same, though. "Don't say that where its maker can hear you."

"Why not? I never said it wasn't impressive work. I just have no context for three-quarters of this."

[pancakeboy]

"Because he'll give you a lecture fit to burn your ears. Though at the end of it, you'll know a lot more than you did."

He offers new-not-Ren a sideways look. "So what parts do you recognise?"

Shiho notices the new guy, and her first instinct is to call out his name, but she knew from meeting an Akira, that wouldn't be a good idea.

Plus something about him is giving weird vibes but she's not sure why. It could her still being a bit paranoid around other boys that's not part of the Phantom Thieves team. Yes Kamoshida was an adult, but it of course left scars that may or may not heal.

She approaches with caution. "It was made by one of the kids here, I don't fully understand it either. This might be a strange question, but are you Akira or Ren?"

[constellationist]

"Asuka? ...No, not Asuka. My apologies." Probably another version of her, though, the way this place is going. Hopefully she's fared a bit better than her counterpart, even if things have evened out now.

(The fact remains that Asuka's invisible in the human world, and thus effectively stuck in Ember's household.)

"Both. Neither. I have a lot of names."

She shakes her head at the first question. It's a first to hear about a version of herself that goes by a different name. She wonders if this is what most Rens/Akiras feel in this place.

The fact that he seems to be dodging her question does make her frown. She can't tell if he doesn't trust her, or if he has some other reason to be cagey. At least she doesn't feel like she's in danger.

"Hmm... do you have a preference in which name to be called?"

If he doesn't pick one, she'll use Ren to make it easier on herself.

It's the addition of the little 'cool' at the end that really does it for her. She giggles as she steps up next to him, having been watching him ponder the board for a while.

"Little Goro-kun could explain it to you next time he comes by. Something about trying to understand which people, and why, and what is up with all of the duplicates of the same people, but slightly different." A beat. "Yeah that probably didn't make any of this clearer, did it? Sorry."

"Not really, but that's fine. I don't mind a good puzzle."

This is probably the kind of puzzle none of them are meant to solve, but when does that ever stop humans? Or anyone else, for that matter.

"I dunno if 'good' is the right word, but it sure is a puzzle! I'm new to all of this nonsense too, so I've only just started wrapping my head around all of it. Welcome to the fun, I guess."
