"Oh, what the fresh fuck is this."

Next to Shinji, Koromaru whines. He has no idea either, but it doesn't smell dangerous.

Shinji sighs. "Good to know, I guess..." He maneuvers his coat around in his hands until he can reach in the pocket - okay, keys are still there, he should be able to duck back out to Liminal Space whenever he wants. Cool.

Now to figure out what the fresh fuck this is.

He ignores Igor entirely, and almost does the same to the conspiracy board until the word 'Tartarus' jumps out at him. Well, shit, that's not a good sign. Oh well. At least he knows where he stands with the Dark Hour, and he's actually way better equipped to handle it than the last time he had to.

Anyway, that gets him to stop long enough to scan the information, and then he's off to Iwatodai. Reading can only tell you so much, after all. Actually seeing what's out there is going to work a hell of a lot better.

"Tell me about it. I guess I didn't make good enough bonds or whatever." hmm. that's something he hasn't remembered before.

"So you were stuck in the middle of it? That sucks."

That shit puts a lot of pressure on people.

"Oh no, I finished everything. Died too. Don't know how I remember that but I ended back at the start." He shrugged.

"What're you supposed to get outta doin' that a second time?" Other than 'hopefully not dying.'

"Wish I knew." He hummed. "That's actually the most I've remembered since I've come back about my circumstances."

"Place to start, at least, but that's gotta be annoying as shit."

Koromaru whines in agreement. That really does sound annoying.

Did the dog. "It is annoying. Can he?" He blinked at the puppy. "Does he understand us? Like I get that animals generally understand what people are saying but like does he fully understand us?"

Shinji just smiles, there and gone in a flash. "How about it, Koro-chan? You wanna show off? Don't see why it wouldn't work in here."

Koromaru barks, then backs away from everyone else in the room and howls - and. That is unmistakably a Persona behind him. Cerberus doesn't stick around long, since there's no active threat.

He watched him. "Oh you are so cool." He praised the dog. "The goodest boy." Did he really care that he was acting like this in front of someone, no. Normally he would but for now, dog.

"Damn right he is."

Koromaru barks again. Cerberus lets him help people!

He couldn't get over how amazing this dog was. If he didn't have a companion then he'd offer. Maybe he should get a dog. He'd like having one around. First question.

"How did you find him or did he find you?"

"He used to live at the shrine in Iwatodai. First owner died, he stayed there for a while, ended up adopting the dorm."

And then Shinji was stuck in Liminal Space and missed him, and figured out how to get him there.

He nodded. "How'd he get a persona? Out of protection?" If that was the case he must have a really strong bond with others.

"Trying to protect his first owner, as I understand it."

"He's very good at that it seems." He gave him a few more pats on the head.

"What do you have in terms of the metaverse? I know I haven't seen either one of you where I'm from."

"...You're probably old enough. You remember anything about Apathy Syndrome at all?"

Shinji, he's three weeks older than Ken. He's definitely old enough.

"Yes, I am familiar." That wasn't an enjoyable time. His child-self had thought that's why he lost his mother, even if that might not have been the case. That time was blurry. It was something about trauma and not being able to process it.

"Shadow shit. I think as far as Mitsuru ever worked it out, the cause was people's Shadows up and leaving their bodies, and sometimes they'd wander back if the body was still there to come back to." Of course, sometimes it wasn't, because losing all motivation to do anything includes 'eat' or 'get out of the sun.'

"I see. I wish I could say that surprised me. The shadows seem to be everywhere. There's a whole place here that they were in the tv. Ours was a separate world of sorts, accessed through an app on our phone." It would be his luck that the shadows took his mother as well.

Shinji just nods, unsurprised by either of those statements. "Yeah, heard about 'em before."

He cleared his throat. "You won't have to deal with those things here if you don't want to. Igor made this place... safe of sorts. You can enter those areas at any time. I haven't had an issue yet. Once you are in them however, you are no longer under Igor's protection, so I expect that death still applies."

"Well, that's something, anyway. Better prepared for it than I used to be, so if I get into shit I can handle myself."

Still. Being able to choose it is kind of a relief.

He nodded. "As far as I know, this is a fairly safe space. So it's easy to relax here. A good place to get yourself some more power and energy."
