Autumn is drawing on in the Velvet Room and its environs. The days are colder, the nights are crisper, leaves are a riot of colour ready to fall from the trees. And (besides all the pumpkin spice popping up for some reason) that means only one thing: Hallowe'en!

As the season approaches, you may undergo a mysterious transformation. Perhaps you wake up with wings, or hooves, or gills! Or perhaps your transformation will change more, go deeper... perhaps to your very soul. Who can tell? You might wake up as an animal, or a mythological creature. Or as anything at all.

Transformations will reverse on the morning of November 1st. ~~Probably.~~

In the meantime, Destinyland is celebrating the holiday. Cheerful Jack-o'-Lantern Shadows have set up on street corners, handing out flyers advertising the park's seasonal festivities. In the days leading up to the 31st, Destinyland will host all the usual fun: Hallowe'en games, Trick or Treat for the babies (and the not-so-babey), the Gorb fortune teller, Shadow-run food stalls serving spooky meals and treats, and, of course, the haunted house with its array of friendly, candy-giving Shadows. Or maybe they're not so friendly.

On the night of Hallowe'en itself, there will be a parade at the park and a grand party out in the main square with food, music, and plenty of space, though characters are not obliged to attend. However, if you wish to show off your new form, see what transformations have been wrought on your fellow guests, or simply take the chance to celebrate, it may be a good opportunity...

Who knows? Perhaps you'll even see some special guests.

"Halloween, I presume." He pouts, which probably looks extra ridiculous with his feline features. His ears fold back, and his tail swishes irritably.

"...right, it's Halloween soon. But it's still unacceptable for Igor to force this on people. It's not like he offered people to sign up for Halloween transformations or something."

He seems contemplative.

"My guess is Elizabeth proposed this idea. It seems roughly in her wheelhouse." Still annoying, and consent would have been vastly preferable, but it could be worse, he supposes.

He stops for a moment, staring down at the fish in his hands, then takes a bite.

Ken is still contemplative.

If people all around the pocket dimension were transforming for Halloween... why didn't he? Maybe such a thing wouldn't work on him, but he was pretty confident there was no attempt to transform him, successful or not.

...

Was it because he already was a monster?

"...It's not everyone. Joker seems more or less the same." Won't that help? It isn't hard to read the room.

"But it's hard to deny I already fit the part."

With the scary red eye and the black rot and the scars and the devoured flesh and everything.

"You aren't a monster." For some reason, he has the urge to headbutt Ken. He won't do it yet, but that urge is certainly building rather strongly. "I don't think you're that scary at all."

"I mean, have you seen how the youngest ones were around me at first... I'm glad that you can easily see past it, but I know what I am."

"They just needed to get used to you. Now there aren't any issues at all."

Damn it. He is headbutting Ken.

"Wh-what? What was that for?"

But Ken seems more amused than anything else.

"...I don't know. I just had the urge to do it." ...And nuzzle, apparently. "This transformation is so annoying."

"So it doesn't only change your appearance, it also impacts your behavior?"

Ken seems a little horrified.

"...I've had the urge to climb and jump to high places and a particular taste for fish." Hence the fish still in his hands... paws? Whatever.

"...I see."

He still seems very much not all right with it, even if it doesn't seem very harmful so far.

"I'll survive." Really, the last thing he wants is for Ken to feel guilty about this. "With luck, this'll all be over after Halloween, though I certainly think Igor needs a lesson about consent and boundaries."

"There's no way he's going to listen to any of us," he says while sulking.

Before a thought crosses his mind.

"Do you think that on Christmas he can be visited by three spirits?"

"He should. In fact, all the attendants should."

He pauses.

"Except Theodore-san. He's really just along for the ride, and if Margaret-san is here, she's generally fairly level-headed."

Another pause follows.

"...So just Igor and Elizabeth."

"There's no need to defend the others. They all still willingly serve that man, without questions."

"I suppose it's my attachment to the versions of them back home. The Igor-san and the Velvet Room attendants I'm familiar with are quite kind."

But that Velvet Room and this Velvet Room differ, obviously. His current state is proof enough of that.

"So... uh..."

He tries to not be rude.

"How... does it feel?"

"...I smell a lot of things I know I wouldn't before. My hearing's significantly better, too." An ear flicks. "Also, adjusting to an entirely new limb is strange."

His tail swishes too.

"Any downsides so far?"

He was glad to see that Raven was taking it rather well.

"...Mostly instincts. Plus, I highly suspect showering is going to be a pain in the ass."

He gestures at himself. All that fur. Wet fur sounds... eugh. He makes a face.

Ken winces sympathetically. That doesn't sound pleasant.

Then a funny idea pops up in his head.

"Should you even shower? Don't cats need to lick themselves to get clean?" he joked.

Raven's face crumples up at the mere suggestion, ears folding back and tail swishing.

"I realize that's normal for cats, but I have little interest in licking my own body, least of all between my toes." He knows cats do that, okay?
