[It's a perfectly ordinary day in Tokyo, if you ignore the fact that Akechi just got done enduring a horrific, white palace with crumbling architecture, creepy tentacles everywhere, and scraps of memory locked away and scattered like puzzle pieces, culminating in battling a tentacled abomination to free Wakaba Isshiki's Shadow from the prison of her mind, and... well. A mother-daughter reunion is always nice, he supposes.

He's on the phone when he stumbles in, deep in the midst of a conversation.]

Isshiki-san's condition is stable, but we'll have to relocate her before he notices anything amiss. ...Yes, Dad, I'm all right. Not that I don't appreciate the concern, but-

[The signal cuts out, and... ah. The Velvet Room. And not the Velvet Room of his childhood, but... this one.

At first he bristles, eyes narrowed into a razor-sharp glare. He has half a mind to complain to Igor about locking him out, but all signs point to Ren's "Igor" being impostor, and... no. Wait.

Recollection flashes before him. With that recollection, he grimaces.]

...Of course I'd end up back here.

[He shuts his eyes, brings a hand to his face, and breathes in deeply. He was such a stupid tween, and if people connect him to said tween... Who even knows how much time has passed here?]

[ Actually...Akira-kun pauses. The Akechis were talking about this person named Yu-san and his cooking...maybe they should have some of that? ]

"What about Yu's dishes?" he writes in his book, large grey eyes boring into them.

We can't be certain that he knows-

[The older Akechi chuckles.]

There are a few options. I could make sweet and sour pork. I could...

[He double checks the fridge.]

How fortunate! There seems to be some fresh fish, if you'd favor seafood. Perhaps with a side of miso, vegetables, and rice. Or perhaps you'd simply favor the simplicity of of a nice omurice...

[There's a skeptical eyebrow raise from the younger of the Akechis.]

And you can actually cook all of those.

Indeed I can.

[ Akira-kun can make omurice! But he'd like seafood tonight. He's already reaching for the mackerel fillets in the fridge, eager to help out. ]

Grilled fish it is, then.

[The older Akechi eagerly accepts the fish and gets to work on setting it up for cooking. In the mean time, he glances at the two kids.]

Akechi-san, could you set the rice cooker up? Akira-kun... Feel free to choose any vegetables that you think will pair well with the fish.

[Hmmm... Well, at least using a rice cooker isn't terrible hard. The younger Akechi nods and heads to the cupboard where the rice is stored.]

[ Akira grabs the ginger, lemon, and sesame seeds, delivering them to Akechi-san. Then, he puts bell peppers, cabbage, and onions onto the cutting board. ]

[Hmm, he seems fairly self-reliant... That's good, but just to be safe-]

Would you like me to cut them, or are you all right? I just don't want you to get hurt.

[Not to be overshadowed, the younger Akechi chimes in-]

I can also assist with cutting the vegetables!

[ It doesn't look like there are any knives small enough for him to use...they can cut. Akira-kun goes to prepare the pan instead. ]

[It won't be long until the vegetables are ready, and the rice seems to be on its way, too. So far, so good.

The younger Akechi fidgets a little. It feels so strange, sharing a kitchen with his older him who's so... hm.

He knows things, but his demeanor's different. It's more... confident? Charismatic in a way that feels oddly sincere.

He'll just hover by his little friend, offering reassuring smiles. At least he can do that much.]

[ Once Akira's done preparing the pan, he sets the vegetables as they're cut over by the stove, and once he's done with that, he goes to set the table and get them drinks. ]

[Their combined efforts allow the dinner efforts to proceed quite smoothly, and both Akechis smile as they watch Akira get the drinks ready.

It won't be long before they can enjoy a nice, homecooked meal.

Which leaves the older Akechi musing...]

By the way... Has it been difficult to stay in touch? This is a very vast place, and I'm not sure Akira-kun has a phone.

...Ah. That is true.

[ Staying in touch...? Akira-kun hasn't thought much of it since he's usually by Akechi-kun's side, but it would be kinda hard if they ever were separated... ]

[With the food finishing up, both Akechis get to work on dishing up their meals.

As they work, the eldest continues speaking.]

I was thinking we could get you a cell phone. That way we can communicate through texts in the case of an emergency.

[Hmm... The younger Akechi nods. It's not a terrible idea.]

It would make it easier to coordinate.

[ Akira-kun nods. He'd like a cellphone -- it could make talking to people easier. ...He hopes they get to eat before that though, the food smells soooooo good already... ]

After dinner, of course. We don't want to let all this food go to waste.

[He and his younger self carry the food out to the table, with the comfortable pillows on the floor all set up and the remote waiting, should they wish to watch TV.]

I must admit. This does smell rather good. I'm astonished there's a version of me that's actually decent in the kitchen. And Akira-kun did a great job helping as well.

[ Akira does a little bounce -- he helped! He grabs the cutlery and scurries over to the table, sitting down. ]

[Aaah, his little bounces are the sweetest thing. And now that they've all gathered, the older Akechi's fingers rap on the table.]

I realize it's not quite the same, but I hope you can take some small comfort in this.

[The younger Akechi frowns, but only for a moment.]

Akira-kun seems to enjoy your company. I'm glad he's made another friend.

[ Another friend? He's just made friends with the same person twice. He squints slightly at Akechi-san but sits down politely and picks up his chopsticks. ]

"I'attakimes," he manages before digging in.

[Oh, goodness, that is cute.

Both the Akechis follow suit, and the older of the two has to really resist the urge to ruffle his hair again. The big bro instincts... they are in full effect.]

Would you like to watch anything?

[ Akira-kun shakes his head. He's good with just their company! And the fish is good...yum. He eats. ]

That's perfectly fine. Whatever makes you happy.

[...Screw it. Here comes a very supportive headpat... that makes the other Akechi want to follow suit, because he shall not be upstaged!

This is silly. They are literally the same person, not that the younger Akechi knows this yet beyond some vague suspicion.]

Of course, Akira-kun and I have a special bond...

[He pulls out his rock as proof. Take that!]

[ The headpats are good, but the rock is even better!! Seeing his chance, Akira-kun dives for Akechi-san's pocket, grabbing his copy of his rock out of it and showing it to Akechi-kun. ]

Wh-What-

[The older Akechi drops his chopsticks, utterly dumbfounded.

But you know who else is dumbfounded? The younger Akechi, who also drops his chopsticks. Fortunately, neither of them had food in said chopsticks.

And now he's gawking. Oh, he is so gawking.]

Th-That's my rock!

[Which he is... also holding. But they are identical. What the fuck?

The older Akechi brings a hand to his forehead.]

Ah... I suppose the secret's out.

[ Akira-kun looks at the two Akechis. He brings the hands holding their rocks together. They're the same person -- he approves. ]

[This is all incredibly weird, and a part of the older Akechi can't help but wonder if being so physically close will finally cause the cataclysmic time paradox of the century...

But it does not.

They just kind of stare at each other.

And stare.

And then the younger Akechi's eyes narrow to a squint.]

Oh my god. You're me from the future, and you didn't lead with that?

In my defense, I wasn't sure it was safe. The risk of a time paradox-

Clearly wasn't enough to deter you from calling me.

[Is he pouting? Maybe a little. Huff!]

...But let's be fair here. You've already made an alliance with one Akechi. And I should think that with our shared interest in Akira-kun's well-being, an alliance between us would be beneficial.

[The younger Akechi taps his chin. Hmm... An apt point.]

Thank you for revealing the truth, Akira-kun. Now this tall trickster has nowhere left to run!

[Oh, he's grinning, and his older self... snickers.]

[ An alliance? Call Akira-kun's curiosity piqued (that's a word he learned from a book he got from a library with Akechi-kun)! He tilts his head slightly. There are also people who look kinda like him if he was old here, and Kitty-san mistook him as "Ren" -- maybe they're more of him? Maybe they could make an alliance! ]

[ Also, oooh, trickster. That word sounds so cool! He wants to be a trickster! And he knows a trick! Or the basics on how to perform them.... ]

Since Akechi-kun and Akechi-san's hands are together with their rocks, he places his hand with his rock on top of theirs, palm-up, sleeve fully down. "Rocks," he says aloud with the biggest grin they've seen yet from him. "Good."
