[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

One hour and eight minutes later, the key turns in the lock to Futaba's door. He nudges it open, carrying the tape labelled Futaba and trying not to look nervous. She just had two tapes; what are the odds that one of them was from him?

Pretty fucking high, probably. Ugh.

She looked up at the door, "hey there," she said nodding. She was sat the two tapes on the table as she looked him over.

[willowandoak]

Ren eyes the tapes jadedly, or at least he hopes he looks jaded instead of skittish. "Hey. Uh."

He steps out of his boots and heads into the front room, plopping down next to her. "Here you go," he says without ceremony, handing it over. "Full disclosure, Goro watched it too. We got them all in one big pile, we couldn't tell whose belonged to who until we saw them."

Yeah, that didn't get past her. She just sighed. "Yeah, I expected about as much," she didn't eleborate if that meant because he spent so much time that she expected this to fall when they were together and tapes get messy, or if she expected there to be no secrets anymore. She'd leave that up to him.

[willowandoak]

...What a response. His skin crawls with shame and guilt. He winces. "Sorry."

"no, that was mean." she sighed.

[willowandoak]

"It's okay." He still feels a little sick, but he's not going to get mad at her about it. She's kind of right, anyway. He leans over, bumping their shoulders together. "And the tape wasn't anything you hadn't already told me. Don't worry about it."

She sighed, her hand ran threw her hair. That was a new thing she developed, "so what was it?" she asked looking over at their shoulders.

[willowandoak]

"You going after your mom's murderer." His voice is soft and apologetic, but he doesn't sound particularly disturbed. She did tell him about it a long time ago, after all, and he's not surprised by anything new that he saw.

She hummed, noncommittal. "having a good 'ol time with that. Still wish I could have redone it with a round two ." she sighs softly. She glances over at her tapes. She didn't know who got who, nor did she know what was on them. But did she feel okay about handling that?

[willowandoak]

"I wish you could have too." But he follows her gaze. "Still haven't watched them?"

He can't exactly blame her. The ones he saw were a lot.
