[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

"I'm afraid I don't, but I can always keep an eye out and ask around the house." There's no shortage of people to ask, after all. Easily the most popular place in the entire Velvet Room.

He'll wait before pressing further. Best to let Falcon lead the conversation here, lest Crow end up too smothering.

He doesn't know what he expected, but at least Crow hasn't seen any of his memories, then. It's both a relief, and not, because that means he'll have to continue looking.

"If you don't mind," he says, clipped. There's a brief pause, because what the fuck is he supposed to say?

Then- he recalls, wasn't one of the tapes...?

"Hey," he continues after a few seconds, "I'm... I think I may have a tape that belongs to Raven. Or you- it's hard to tell."

Ah. Crow quiets momentarily. A tape that could be either one... Well, there are ways to know with certainty.

"I can probably narrow it down, depending on the contents of the memory."

[gorobo]

Falcon looks at Crow. It's not like he... cares what Crow thinks, but still, it wasn't... a pleasant memory, clearly. He certainly hopes this didn't happen to Raven- and that it won't.

"I saw the day you awakened to Loki," he says, shortly, because that's the crux of the memory, isn't it? No need to dreg up more. He's also not looking to upset the guy.

[fogbornphantom]

"Ah." He tenses at the confirmation. It's... not a pleasant memory. Far from it, really, but... A sigh slips out of him. "Then it must be me. Raven awakened Loki here, with Magpie by his side."

A far more pleasant awakening by comparison, despite the screams and the tears that followed. It brought catharsis. Connection.

Falcon closes his eyes briefly, then opens them again.

"There was no Magpie there, no," he murmurs, "I am at least glad that didn't happen to Raven."

because it really, truly was a horrible thing to see. Falcon may not know Nanako, or many of the people who were surrounding Raven- well, Crow, but the way Adachi interrupted a birthday party of a sick girl of all things...

"Some people truly are unforgivable," Falcon continues, "you- he was caught, yes? Adachi."

"We did, but his immense power made it a hard fought battle, even with the Shadow Operatives providing us with support." A hand settles on his hip, and he gazes off into the distance. "Truthfully, it took significant restraint not to end him, despite my assertions that death was too merciful. I felt so disgusted by my own hypocrisy, made worse by the fact that I had to put up with him several months later, when Sho Minazuki whisked him back to Inaba."

That was a whole other mess in and of itself.

[gorobo]

"... Some people don't deserve that kind of mercy," Falcon murmurs, "the world would be better off with them gone."

Is Adachi one of those people? Falcon doesn't know for sure, but from what he saw on the tape... perhaps so. Not that it matters- it wasn't him making the decision, and if it were-

Who knows.

"Regardless," he says, straightening a little, "I don't have it with me, but I'll bring it by your house later, then. Unless you'd prefer to wait here for me to go grab it."

[fogbornphantom]

"I'm flexible. Whatever is most comfortable for you." It's only fair to let him lead. He's already in a bad mood, and no doubt he wants to get it over with.

He exhales softly. "For what it's worth, I certainly wouldn't complain if someone killed Shido, though I wonder if the demons in hell deserve such a blight in their domain..."

[gorobo]

"I'm sure they'd know exactly what to do with him," Falcon huffs. If nothing else, Phoenix would make sure it's taken care of- that's what he'd like to believe anyway.

Not that it matters. Phoenix' world isn't connected to his own, so who cares, anyways?

"Fine. Wait here." If Crow's not going to make a decision, then Falcon's getting this over with as soon as possible. He starts running to his house, with speed that only a robot can, and soon enough, he's back, tape in hand.

When Falcon returns, Crow accepts the tape with a calm expression. "Thank you, and I apologize for the trouble." Perhaps it would have been simpler if it had been Raven.

It's so hard to tell where he and Falcon stand.

[gorobo]

"Yeah, well," Falcon scoffs, "it's not like you asked for it either."

It's so tough to talk to Crow, because he's so important to Raven and Hiro, but... he still has complicated feelings surrounding the guy, to say the least.

[fogbornphantom]

"None of us did. This all feels... even misguided feels too generous." Especially to someone like Falcon, he's sure. It's not lost on Crow how much he undoubtedly distrusted Igor already.

[gorobo]

Falcon scowls, and looks away.

"Yeah. He's really not endearing himself to me," he says, "this just continues to prove what I already knew."

That Igor is an untrustworthy god looking for entertainment at the expense of the people here, that is.

[fogbornphantom]

"Sometimes I do wonder about this Igor's authenticity, truthfully. I just can't fathom the Igor I'm familiar with going to such lengths to force connections..." He runs a hand through his hair, sighing.

[gorobo]

"Or maybe he would, but has not felt the need yet," Falcon points out. "But who knows. It's not like Igor imposters are unheard of."

Not that he wants to go bat for Igor's innocence, but he's also not going to ignore the facts.

"... Either way, you have your tape, so I'll be going now." He's quite done talking to Crow- not that he wanted to, in the first place. "Say hi to Magpie, Hiro and Raven for me."

[fogbornphantom]

"I will." He could leave it at that, but... "And please take care, Falcon. If there's anything I can do to help, you know how to reach me."

[gorobo]

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." He waves dismissively as he turns around, walking away. "Thanks. See you around, Crow."
