[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

Ah. You have one of my memories.

Can you drop it off at my house as soon as possible? Or I can meet you, whichever you prefer.

[At least it's Rose. She won't judge, whatever she saw. Probably one of the better people to receive one of his- not that he's happy about it regardless. He didn't ask to have people rooting through his memories.

And he shouldn't ask, he shouldn't, but-]

Certainly. Did you need any help preparing your garden for winter, or do you plan to allow nature to take its course? [In which case a lot of the less hardy plants may die, but he's going for 'wild overgrown yard,' so that might suit him.]

She was attempting to explain the concept of birthdays to you. And gave you a nature book.

[gorobo]

I'm letting nature take its course, for the most part. I'll be keeping an eye on some plants, but the ones I wish to keep over the winter should be capable of withstanding it. Others will regrow in spring, and vegetables can be replanted. Thank you for the offer.

[And- oh. That memory...]

I see. Can you please deliver it? Or I could come to you, if you prefer.

[He wants- he needs to see this. This memory, he- mom...]

[And indeed, it's not terribly long before she knocks on his door.]

Falcon's quick to open the door, looking quite a bit more haggard than he usually does. This whole thing has clearly had an impact on him.

"Hey, thanks for coming by," he says, before stepping aside, "feel free to come in."

[rosemaudite]

"Of course. You deserve to have this back." She wouldn't have wanted to keep it regardless. That would just be weird.

"Raven got to watch me lose my faith in my father in real time. No one else has mentioned having something of mine, but I can't imagine you're having anything resembling fun with this nonsense."

Haru's at least managed to be on civil terms with most of the people she's met. Falcon, alas, can't really say the same, even if it's not entirely his fault.

[gorobo]

"Hah, yeah, I," he mutters, "don't believe I have anything of yours. All the better, honestly- I can't say I've been enjoying all this very much either."

Understatement of the century. Something resembling a mix of both anger and anxiety buzzes through his systems, though he's... managing. He's managing.

"Did you want something to drink?" he asks, accepting the tape from her, "Futaba-chan insisted we make vegetable juice from my garden, but I... well, you know by now."

[rosemaudite]

"The better question is, will company be helpful to you right now?"

If not, she can get out of his synthetic hair. If so, she can impose upon his hospitality for a while.

[gorobo]

"... Not really, no," he grumbles. He already feels vulnerable enough as is, and while he likes Rose well enough- "I don't know."

He really feels off-kilter, and if what Rose saw is to be believed...

"I'd kind of like to watch what's on this tape," he murmurs, "alone."

Is that the best idea? Probably not, but Falcon's not exactly thinking straight right now.

"All right. Let me know if you change your mind."

[gorobo]

"Yeah, thanks," he says, looking a little grateful. "If I hear anything about one of your tapes, I'll let you know."
