[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

You may find Falcon wandering around Inaba, looking a little beat up; he clearly went to try and fight Igor and the Velvet attendants, with the results speaking for themselves. He's not hurt, necessarily, but he's dirty with the soot of magical flames. And a Megidolaon, perhaps.

Ok, so maybe he's a little hurt, but no more than surface damage. He is, however, extremely angry, and perhaps, if you're good at reading Goros, anxious.

[At least it's Rose. She won't judge, whatever she saw. Probably one of the better people to receive one of his- not that he's happy about it regardless. He didn't ask to have people rooting through his memories.

Certainly. Did you need any help preparing your garden for winter, or do you plan to allow nature to take its course? [In which case a lot of the less hardy plants may die, but he's going for 'wild overgrown yard,' so that might suit him.]

She was attempting to explain the concept of birthdays to you. And gave you a nature book.

I'm letting nature take its course, for the most part. I'll be keeping an eye on some plants, but the ones I wish to keep over the winter should be capable of withstanding it. Others will regrow in spring, and vegetables can be replanted. Thank you for the offer.

[ Yeah, well, Ren isn't thrilled about it either, especially after Falcon reveals that he got one of Ren's tapes in return. But he doesn't dislike Falcon enough to make this harder than it needs to be.

What did Falcon see? Fuck. ]

[ He'll show up a few minutes later, carrying a tape and looking guarded. If Falcon isn't there yet, he'll wait. ]

Falcon is already there, holding on to a tape, and looking... less than happy about the whole situation. When he spots Drake, his expression tightens, but he approaches, regardless.

"Drake," he says, in lieu of a greeting, "let us make the exchange, then."

His voice is terse. He is not happy about this.

To the Ken Amada whom I just watched forcibly draw a woman's Shadow to the surface to force her to confess her secrets, and then induce apathy syndrome in her: I have your tape. I am waiting in Mementos. If you don't come, I will find you, and that is a promise. Your cult can't help you here.

And don't you fucking dare touch Raven. I'll make you regret it.

It has to be one of the other Kens. Another one arrived recently.

The Ken I know would never do such a thing.

He wouldn't. Also, he's talked about his powers, and he never mentioned such things. He's not interested in Shadows and apathy syndrome at all.

Logically, we must assume it's the new one. We know it's not our Ken. The other Ken is like the one I know back home. Plus, if he was malevolent, we'd know it by now.

That just leaves the new one.

It's a shame. I had encountered the new Ken on Halloween and he seemed ordinary at a glance.

He asked a great deal of questions, but that in itself isn't malicious.

That's disturbing... if the culprit doesn't reveal himself, I'm willing to be investigated. My privacy is less important than identifying who is this dangerous Ken.

I realize we're not as close, but I feel like process of elimination really does place the newest Ken under greatest suspicion.

I'd tend to agree with you. I have my own thoughts on the Ken Amada who arrived here first, but he doesn't seem the type to do such things. And we know so little about our newest arrival...

Some time later, in Mementos...

One Ken Amada - perhaps not the one Falcon had been expecting - was now casually strolling up to the entrance, one hand in a pocket, the other holding a popsicle he was sucking on.

He was very relaxed, without any hint of nervosity. It was clear he wasn't taking things seriously.

And Falcon immediately notices- all his sensors on high alert. No, this is not the Amade he was expecting, but...

If the one he was thinking about felt like bad news to his sensors, this one- from his demeanor to his general aura, this one feels-

He can only describe it as pure evil.

His eyes narrow. "So Raven was right," he hisses, "you're the one."

The tape is clutched tightly in his right hand, the left one hovering near his side, caps already unlatched. He's ready for a fight, and it shows. He'll put an end to this manipulator- he'll keep the people he cares about safe.

He doesn't seem to react at all at Falcon's aggressive behavior. It's like he's not noticing, or not caring about it.

"Hello, Falcon-san. I believe you wanted to give me something?"

Crow knows that Falcon is hardly his biggest fan, yet when he spots him wandering, he approaches nonetheless, a soft frown on his face.

"This was a mistake, especially given how much you've endured already." And now his privacy has surely been violated again. It's easy to see why Falcon's so anxious. "...Do you need assistance?"

And caught up as he is in the whole debacle, Falcon straightup startles when Crow calls out to him, full-body twisting to face him, arm already halfway up... only to lower them when he sees who it is. He rubs a hand over his face, ragged.

"You wouldn't happen to have one of my tapes, would you?" he says, straight to the point. "Or know who has them."

He's... not doing well, clearly.

"I'm afraid I don't, but I can always keep an eye out and ask around the house." There's no shortage of people to ask, after all. Easily the most popular place in the entire Velvet Room.

He'll wait before pressing further. Best to let Falcon lead the conversation here, lest Crow end up too smothering.

He doesn't know what he expected, but at least Crow hasn't seen any of his memories, then. It's both a relief, and not, because that means he'll have to continue looking.

"If you don't mind," he says, clipped. There's a brief pause, because what the fuck is he supposed to say?

Then- he recalls, wasn't one of the tapes...?

"Hey," he continues after a few seconds, "I'm... I think I may have a tape that belongs to Raven. Or you- it's hard to tell."
