[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

It has to be one of the other Kens. Another one arrived recently.

The Ken I know would never do such a thing.

He wouldn't. Also, he's talked about his powers, and he never mentioned such things. He's not interested in Shadows and apathy syndrome at all.

Logically, we must assume it's the new one. We know it's not our Ken. The other Ken is like the one I know back home. Plus, if he was malevolent, we'd know it by now.

That just leaves the new one.

It's a shame. I had encountered the new Ken on Halloween and he seemed ordinary at a glance.

He asked a great deal of questions, but that in itself isn't malicious.

Yet, again, nothing malicious has happened yet, has it? Nothing that would raise alarm, or suggest ill intent.

Crow would know.

We could always ask him.

Then again, I suspect he's fully aware of this conversation.

Well, Crow-san? What do you think?

[Wait for it...]

[A message pops up... from Raven?]

Using the process of elimination, I think we can safely conclude that the new Ken is our culprit.

Which presents a problem, if he's so powerful, yet putting on a friendly guise. Now that he's been exposed, he may be less inclined to keep up appearances.

[minipancake]

I knew you could do it!

[D'awww. But, more seriously....]

It's not as if Igor-san wouldn't let us come to harm. We know he has in the past. But if he's so dangerous, why is he here?

I wonder...

Either Igor has some grand plan, or there's something else at play.

Just be careful, all right? And that goes for both of you. Raven is strong, but we don't know the full scope of this Ken's abilities.

[Raven's strong, while Wagtail still has only his wits. He knows.]

I'm not going to slip up. But I would like to talk to him.

If you do, you should have an escape plan, and ideally someone close by, in case it escalates.

Why? If this Ken is as powerful as our Ken, then none of that would do any good. Unless I can count on Igor.

[Which he knows he can't.]

Then perhaps make sure our Ken is near by, assuming he consents.

Communicating him would help, if nothing else.

We're friends. I'm not going to allow anyone to slander you.

Let me know if you need anything, all right?

I'll be honest: I'm freaking out. I don't know what to do.

[fogboundcrow]

Do you want to come over?

Also, for what it's worth, Crow believes in you, too. He fully suspects the newcomer is to blame.

Almost immediately after, an exhausted and shaking Ken appears in the Dojima house's living room.

[fogboundcrow]

And right away, Raven comes over to hug him. "It's going to be all right."

[vessel_ken_amada]

Ken hugs him back, very tightly. He's still shaking. He's not completely lost in his own mind as he has been in the past however, he probably just needs some time to calm down.

[fogboundcrow]

That's all right. Raven holds him, his grip firm but not crushing. The important part is that Ken knows he's not alone.

After a few minutes, Ken calms down enough to be coherent. He breaks the hug and sits down on the couch.

"...I'm going to be the main suspect, aren't I?"

[fogboundcrow]

"I won't let that happen." Raven sits down beside him, good and close. "Crow won't either, nor will Wagtail."

[vessel_ken_amada]

"And I'm so grateful for this, but... what are the odds of another Ken having powers similar to mine? Won't that make it hard for others to trust you?"

[fogboundcrow]

"Crow and I both coexist. Wagtail and Magpie as well." He speaks unflinchingly, offering a hand if Ken needs it. "For all we know, he's an alternate version of you. Stranger things have happened here."
