[EVENT] Memory Tapes

On the morning of November 21st, denizens in the Velvet Room will awake to a message on their phones or by their bedsides in an envelope. Perhaps even on their computer screens.

Greetings! If you've received this message, then you've been selected as a participant in a new activity to strengthen bonds within this community.

In order to facilitate connections with your fellow residents, we advise you to watch this video. Watch it and return the tape to its rightful owner. If you lacked the means to watch VHS tapes before, we have provided you with the necessary equipment.

Failure to do so may put your own memories at risk. Do not be selfish, lest you find yourself struggling to recall crucial moments of your life. You have no way of knowing which memories have been shared, so ask yourself if it is worth the risk to selfishly hoard another's secrets.

They will soon find a VHS tape, with a case that gives off a soft, blue glow to symbolize its importance. If they lack a TV or VCR, they will find one in their living space.

What they do is up to them, but they should heed the warning, if they value their own memories.

[Thankfully, Raven does know the area well enough, so he makes his way over. Naturally, he starts with Rose's room, with a cautious knock at the door. If all else fails, he'll just head up top.]

[Haru has redecorated the room to suit her sensibilities, so at least it doesn't look so much like A Love Hotel Room. Unless there's one that leans into the 'goth with plants' aesthetic, anyway.]

Raven relaxes when he sees the decor. It's certainly preferable to the more lavish and "love"-themed aesthetics he would have expected in a place like this.]

Personalized the room, I see.

Of course. I was hardly going to leave it as I found it.

[If she ever leaves this place for good, it'll probably reset itself. Or maybe not, who knows.]

A pity that renovating the entire hotel would be such an intensive task. I think a full remodeling would certainly appeal more to the current population.

[Well, he'll go ahead and hold out the tape for Haru to take, since it is hers, after all.]

[She takes the tape without comment. What else is there to say about it?]

I'm not sure it would stick, either, the way vandalism and destruction tend to reset if left alone. At least my own space is holding steady.

I wonder if the difference is that it's lived in.

[He glances around, taking in more of the finer details.]

Places like the Diet Building exist in our collective understanding of Tokyo, but they aren't "ours" the way that this room belongs to you, or like how my home is now shared with Magpie and so many others.

Quite possibly. The garden's certainly stable enough. I don't know if that would extend to the rest of the building, but it may be worth experimenting.

If you'd like, I certainly don't mind participating. Perhaps Magpie and Wagtail would enjoy it as well.

[He knows that Wagtail likes Rose as well. Surely he'd be willing to indulge in some scientific applications of redecorating.]

Maybe they would. I could ask Akako-san as well - there's a chance she'd find it particularly cathartic.

I'd certainly enjoy her input. It'd be fun to share a project with her.

[Though, with that in mind, he touches his chin.]

We could always make it a community endeavor, I suppose, but I'm not sure if we should.

It might be too many people piling in at once, that's for sure. Besides, if it works, we can turn a larger group loose on another building.

I'd say the Diet building, but I almost wonder if that's unoriginal at this point.

[Heh. Not that it wouldn't be fun, of course.]

Perhaps one of the Big Bang Burgers?

Perhaps. [There's a sharp edge to Haru's smile - but then, her worthless father's work deserves to be spat upon like this, doesn't it?]

Actually, I believe one of the Big Bang Burgers has changed already. Now it's... Justice Banger?

[Which certainly sets a precedent, though Raven's brow only creases at the concept. What other places could be changed so blatantly?]

Well, it's certainly an eye-catching name.

Shrike left some notes on the board about it. Seems it was a result of his own experimentation, based on the Shibuya he left behind.

[He doesn't have the note memorized, but it does open up some fascinating possibilities, if nothing else.]

Fascinating. We'd have our work cut out for us, in terms of keeping newcomers informed about changes we wanted to make permanent, but maybe something could be changed on a larger scale if we're committed enough.

Shrike may at least have some ideas for ways we can more easily manipulate our surroundings.

[A small smile takes hold at the mere prospect. So many possibilities...]

Though it's funny how Sumaru City so easily lends itself to alterations by default.

And a bit unnerving. I don't think I'd be comfortable staying there, with everything that malleable. At least here, there's some stability.

Oh, I agree. There's a certain novelty to the rumors, but between the demons and the unsettling space ship hovering in the sky, it leaves quite the impression.

[On one hand, space ships are cool. On the other hand, this one is foreboding.]

It really does, doesn't it.

Still, there may be something to learn from how malleable it is, if taken in moderation.

True. It could be beneficial in testing the extreme limits of cognition, and my cake experiment already proved that we can push the boundaries of logic even outside of Sumaru.

[Granted, it was just a cake at a party, so maybe that's why? There's room for improvement, at any rate.]

Did you successfully wrangle yourself a nutritious cake?

At the anniversary party, as a matter of fact. Quite the achievement, really.
