There's a new door in the Velvet Room, decked out in streamers and balloons and an ornate sign reading, Second Anniversary Celebration. Maybe you step through it. Maybe you think that's a bad idea, or you're too busy. Maybe you don't have a chance to see the door at all. Nonetheless, whether you've brought yourself or whether you've taken a step to find yourself transported against your will, you've found yourself in the party room.

Igor has provided the usual tables, chairs, and lavish spreads of food. This time, some of the food is already plated, with each tiny plate containing exactly two of an item: two cookies, or two canapes, or two dumplings, and so on. The forks for the fondue fountain are split, allowing you to dip two items at once, and every variety of mini-pizza has two toppings. The theme of twos extends to the decor: small tables set close together in groups of two, twinned streamers hanging from the walls, balloons shaped like the number 2 that cluster at the ceiling and float above tables. By the far wall, a shrine dispenses fortunes for the upcoming year in the Velvet Room—but, of course, always two at once. Who can say which is true? Is either true?

Unusually for Igor's parties, clusters of comfortable chairs sit a small distance from the rest of the party. You might be able to have something resembling a private conversation there. Even more oddly, ornately-framed full-length mirrors are set against the walls at regular intervals. If you're unlucky, the reason for those things will quickly become clear.

Everyone will receive a letter in their hand upon arriving in the room. In an elegant script, it says:

Welcome to the belated celebration of our second year together. We apologize for the delay, but we didn't wish to interrupt your summer vacation in Hawaii. We hope you had a wonderful time.

For some of you, the unlucky ones, the letter continues for another paragraph:

We're so proud of the bonds you have formed during your time here. To help you deepen them even more, we're encouraging you all to open up to each other today. Remember, candor and trust are key to deep, lasting relationships.

If you received the full-length letter, you only have to look down or catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror to spot it: one of your secrets, written on your chest for everyone to read.

It might hover there in glowing writing, or it might look like it was always part of the fabric, or it could look any other way that writing could manifest. Regardless, there it is, and nothing you do will hide it or get rid of it while you're in the room. If you cover yourself with a jacket or overshirt, the secret will appear on that instead. If you take off your shirt, it will reappear on your skin. If you try to hide, it will float over your head if necessary, visible to anyone who can see any part of you at all. It will only vanish from someone's sight if you yourself are completely hidden from them, and it will only disappear for good once you've left the room—but you might find that the door has disappeared.

Have a lovely time at the party, and as always, don't forget to bond with each other. That's why you're here, after all!

[[[Welcome to the anniversary mingle, but weird this time! To sum up, if you want one of your character's secrets to be revealed in a dramatic and involuntary way, you can optionally decide to write it on them during this event. You can also just have your characters hang out and gawk, point and laugh, try to comfort people, revel in their good luck that Igor let them keep their own secrets, eat the party food, etc.

The door will reappear for your characters whenever you want it to, or it might never vanish at all. That possibility is just there in case you want a reason for your character not to immediately run away.]]]

Congratulations! You're now the proud owner (or parent?) of an egg.

All residents of the Velvet Room will find an egg next to them when they wake up today, or, if they don't sleep, they'll blink or look away and find it sitting beside them. A simple card rests beside it, bearing their name in elegant calligraphy.

The egg is about the size and shape of a goose egg, but colored a pale, sparkling blue reminiscent of the Velvet Room's butterflies. It weighs less than you might expect, but it's warm, and now and then you feel something move inside it... or is that just your imagination? You don't need to carry it with you everywhere, but if you try to abandon it entirely, it'll return to your home to wait for you again. It's completely indestructible and impossible to crack.

Igor and the attendants of the Velvet Room refuse to answer questions about the egg plague, or even give cryptic hints. The most they'll do is talk about how much of a mystery the world can be. The attendants seem pretty pleased about something, though...

After a day of being perplexing, alarming, endearing, amusing, or whatever other reaction they might inspire, the eggs finally crack at the stroke of midnight. Their broken shells turn to glimmering blue light and vanish, revealing...

...an orb of your character, in the style of Gorbs and Jokorbs, or any other orb you've seen on TV. This one, though, is a normal orb size (small enough to fit easily in the palm of your hand) and exhibits no signs of life or sentience. It's nothing more than a little round plushie that looks like you. Unlike the egg, it can be destroyed or abandoned, but how could you do such a thing? Look at its little face.

[[ Happy April Fools' Day! Enjoy this small event gifted to your characters, or inflicted upon them, by powers unknown. Definitely not by Igor, and especially not because a certain one of his attendants thought of it. ]]

The Ken Amada who made certain threats, whom Igor didn't bring to the Velvet Room and didn't welcome, has been permanently contained within his other-world self. Many of the Velvet Room residents mobilized in the effort to neutralize the threat he posed, and now, in the moments after the devastating battle that sealed Ken away, perhaps you have business to conclude.

Maybe you're a fighter, left in the rubble the battle made of its surroundings—or maybe you were a noncombatant this time, left behind to wonder what's happening or prepare for the aftermath. Maybe you linger around the battle site, or maybe you have other things to do.

Or maybe you didn't survive. Maybe you're one of the glowing forms slowly coalescing in front of Igor's desk in the Velvet Room over the course of the subsequent half hour. Igor presides over them gravely, with no sign of his usual smile. Near his desk sits a box of snacks, familiar to anyone who's used the operation's training room.

[[ooc: This post is a general catch-all for the aftermath of the battle! It's backdated to February 26, the day Ken got got.]]

On the morning of August 9th, everyone will receive an invitation to a special get-together on the Nav.

It reads, "In honor of a year of bonds and irreplaceable memories, you are humbly invited to celebrate amongst your community. Dress as you like, and take pride in your personal progress. We even have awards to celebrate the tremendous growth of our residents."

Those who pass through the Velvet Room today will find themselves in a wide, grand ballroom not unlike the Halloween Party. There's a grand buffet of all manner of foods, both simple and lavish, as well as a multi-tiered cake with a plastic number 1 on top, such as you see on birthday cakes.

A wall can be found with a list of awards for characters and corresponding medals and trophies for them to take, should they so choose, such as Most Improved, Kindest, or whatever suits them the most—or perhaps they've received no award at all.

Bright and obnoxious banners and decorations hang overhead that say, 'HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!'

There's a dance floor, chairs for sitting and enjoying the atmosphere, and no shortage of activities, from a ballpit full of Gorbs, Rorbs, and Hee-horbs to a number of quirky arcade games and miscellaneous activities. Pin the nose on the Igor? Whack-a-Shido? Feel free to make up your own shenanigans.

Who knows? Perhaps you'll even meet a few unexpected guests.

[OOC: Happy anniversary, everyone! To celebrate, have a cute party mingle. We'll also have a thread where guest characters can show up. This is a great way to invite friends who may wanna see if they click with the community or to throw in characters just for fun, if you so choose.]

It's in the wee hours of the morning that all residents of the Velvet Room receive a message on their phones.

Good morning.

In the interest of strengthening community bonds and preventing further vandalism on what was intended as a community board, I have elected to expand the capabilities of your communications within this realm.

Every device with network capabilities may now access a specialized social network designed for your convenience.

I have been told there is a similar application in reality, but for our purposes, you may call it Flutter.

Fortunately, it is closer to what you may consider a forum or a blogging apparatus. A limited character count would undoubtedly provoke misunderstandings. Someone could state that they enjoy pancakes, and others may assume they despise waffles.

Please do enjoy, and best of luck on your endeavors,

Igor

P.S. While vandalism is not strictly illegal within this realm, it is important to remember that there are children present. Use your abilities wisely.

[Any attempts to respond to this post will be redirected to a Flutter post. Feel free to threadjack and gossip amongst one another. Perhaps you'll even get a reply if you're lucky...]

[ooc: Congratulations! You have unlocked a network. Its functions are about on par with most networks in DWRP. You can do text posts, audio posts, insert videos if the device has a camera (e.g. phones or a computer with a webcam).

The difference between network posts and IC inboxes is primarily that network posts are accessible to any character. When posting, you can clarify a post is network via post prompt or in the post title. Posts can include action and network prompts as well!]

The Velvet Room Dressing Room is an invite-only Dressing Room RP centered around the Persona series. Canon, AU, CRAU, and fandom OCs are permitted. Characters of any amount of screentime in-game are also welcomed, as long as they fit within the Persona setting (e.g. the girl crushing on Mitsuru, the kid from Kanji's Social Link, etc).

The OOC Community for non-RP chat, event and muse suggestions, and anything else OOC can be found here. Please join and intro yourself there! We also have a community Discord, which members can gain access to by PMing the mod account. Because we are invite only, membership to the main DR community is pending mod approval. A new door has appeared in the Velvet Room, far more elegant than the rest. Additionally, every Velvet Room guest may find a new notification on their phones, inviting them to take part in the festivities. It is holiday, after all, the perfect time to foster their bonds. So come, bring your most haunting attire, and join the grand masquerade.

Those who come willingly will stumble into an enchanting sight. A grand ballroom, bathed in blue, with appropriately haunting decor. Ghostly apparitions dance through the air. Cobwebs gather up above, positioned just right to add to the atmosphere without making the place look run down. There is a long table topped with all manner of refreshments. A chocolate fountain, punch bowls to spare, pumpkin spice pancakes piled high and for some reason, at least a few bear Goro Akechi's image? Strange. There are other odd assortments of snacks with a Halloween flair, from caramel apples to spooky spider cookies to sushi in the shape of a brain. All manner of treats and entrees can be found, to please children and adults alike.

There are activities aplenty, from apple bobbing to a haunted house manned by friendly faces like Pyro Jacks and assorted Ghouls. A fortune telling table sits off to the side, with a... Gorb, yes, a large Gorb the size of a beach ball, dressed in appropriate costume and eager to tell your future. Accuracy may vary.

If you don't have a costume, never fear. Guests will be granted one as they step through the door, whether by choice or by "incidentally" finding themselves here instead of where they were meaning to be. After all, what's the point in a party if guests hide away?

Now come forth and embrace the season of scares. Perhaps there will even be a few surprises in store...

For instance, some faces otherwise unseen in the Velvet Room until now. In this time of haunting and the macabre, dream and reality drift ever closer. Who knows who you might meet?

(OOC: Party mingle event! May shenanigans ensue. Also, characters who are not yet joined/in the DR fully may appear translucent as ghosts, or have other "not really here" tells - or not - at player discretion. If you are here as a guest, do introduce yourself in
the sister OOC Comm post!)

Welcome~!

You open your eyes, and you find yourself in a blue room, music filling the air. When you look around, there are doors to each side - but there is also a desk in the middle of the room that draws your attention, and a man sat at the desk who has... a very long nose.

"Welcome," he says, "to the Velvet Room." He waves a hand, encompassing the space you can see before you. "This place exists between dream and reality, mind and matter. If you have any concerns about the world from which you have come, you can rest assured that you are not truly absent while you stay here. Still, you should use your time wisely, and form bonds with the others you find in a similar situation to yourself, as you never know where they might lead you! So please, feel free to explore."

The only question remains is this: Will you answer the call of a door that seems most familiar to you, or one that feels more unknown?
