[It's morning in the Dojima house, and it's clear something is amiss. That morning, Crow descends the stairs not only with Ren, but his Shadow as well.

Ren himself looks as though he's hardly gotten any sleep. The two Akechis guide him over to the couch. Crow's Shadow stays beside Ren, while Crow makes his way to the kitchen.

Those who live there or those inclined to visit may be in for a surprise. Usually Ren is in brighter spirits than this.]

Ren's spent the last few days putting together something...big. Well, you'd think it was something big with the way he's been running around after Christmas! The Akechi Residence looks a bit like an American Wallmark movie and a Buddhist shrine had a lovechild, covered in homey Christmas-turned-turn-of-the-year decor. Ren himself is wearing his Wallmark best, a pair of jeans with a plain shirt and an obnoxious Christmas apron reading "Don't REIN in your appetite, DEER!" over it. The kitchen is decked out in both wreaths and helpings of food: mochi, cookies and Aki-chan's "cookys", seven-herb rice soup, and Leblanc's own curry, to name just a few. If there's anything you've ever wanted in a New Year's-Christmas celebration, Ren's probably tried his best to get it there.

In fact, he's trying his best to get YOU there, too! There are a ton of flyers littered around the Velvet Room and adjacent areas, inviting you to his party, heavily emphasizing the available food (curry, just like LeBlanc makes) and the directions (fourth door over in the Velvet Room, can't miss it).

Meanwhile, a few minutes before the start of the party, Ren's nerves are going a little haywire, and he's doing the Akechi thing of "pick at my surroundings to make sure they're 100% perfect" to deal with it. Not sure if anyone's gonna visit...I am just kinda "Crow's boyfriend" to a lot of people...not that I don't like being his boyfriend! But I really wanna get to know other people, too...

> Make his day and show up to his party?

[ a/n // forward-dated by like a day so that birbkechi can show up, if that's a thing lol ]

[The Halloween party brought many surprises, but perhaps the most startling thing was seeing Magpie ([personal profile] pancakeboy) turn into a child. At least he found a fast friend in Raven ([personal profile] fogboundcrow), and after some discussion, it's been decided that Magpie will be staying with them for now.

And so now, the "Orphanage of the Damned" has another tenant. There's work to be done! An extra mouth means extra food is required, and Crow finds himself hard at work in the kitchen in order to ensure that the proper introduction to their new guest is as cozy as possible.

People are willing to stop by for a visit. Perhaps Igor mentioned the situation, or perhaps an advertisement was added to a certain conspiracy board still situated in the main area of the Velvet Room.

What's important is helping Magpie feel safe, and perhaps he can make some new friends along the way. Or perhaps you simply wish to visit the other residents. Or drop off extra food. That certainly wouldn't hurt.]

After collapsing during the beach party for Raven-san, Kurusu-kun is...different. He moves almost stiffly, on auto-pilot, meticulously careful about being polite and non-intrusive; he doesn't make messes, he doesn't need to be told to do things, he barely reacts to people addressing him. His large eyes, usually noticeably observant, are now far past his normal blankness and into an almost-haunted stare into the distance, glazed and unfocused.

To him, it feels like...he remembers this one time in school he had a pencil with a very stiff eraser on the end, and he tried to use it to remove characters he misspelled from his notebook. He had to rub super hard to get the mistakes out, and bits of paper came up along with his poor writing. It feels like that -- like someone took a stale eraser to the whole wide world and scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed at everything to get the mistakes out, including his insides.

Kurusu-kun wakes up the day after the beach party at 8:00 AM -- his normal wake-up time at home -- in Crow-san's house. It will be a slow, quiet day for him, as he treads through the cotton minefield and fills himself up with color again.

[It's been a harrowing few nights, to be sure, in no small thanks to a certain young "Raven" deciding to dive into Mementos alone and take on a very powerful Shadow. It worked out, in the end, of course. THey obtained valuable information, and "Magpie" helped him through his Loki-induced migraine, and it seemed that the event even signified the start of a Social Link.

It also just so happens that they are well overdue to celebrate "Raven's" birthday and that Ren plans to blow up a large chunk of Shinjuku, so he's entrusted "Crow" to keep the children busy. But, rather than settle for a mere distraction, he's left a notice in the Velvet Room inviting people to visit Shichiri Beach, near Inaba, with helpful directions made easier by the compressed distances. No bikes or scooters required!

Crow had the foresight to bring necessary supplies, including towels and blankets, sunscreen, and picnic baskets and coolers that probably took multiple trips or multiple hands.

There's watermelon, plenty of sodas in the cooler, some mixed fruit bowls, barbecued meat and vegetable skewers, and other odds and ends. There's even a rather extravagant looking cake, which is for later. Guests are, of course, welcome to bring their own meals.

There are floaties and life jackets for any children or those who need a bit more help in the water, and even some child-safe fireworks for later in the evening. There are volleyball nets, beach balls, and really, isn't that lovely? Who needs to risk one's safety in Shinjuku, really? Look at how much fun you can have in a safe, sandy environment!]

All right. Haru's claimed an apartment, had a couple... interesting conversations, and settled in well enough to raid her father's house for some of her gardening projects. It's time to get her rooftop garden back in order. But first: shopping around for other goodies.

Why this led her to the Inaba door, she couldn't articulate - it just... felt like something she should do. But she's glad it did. There are vegetables here that she hasn't seen before, and all of them look like they'd be useful in the Metaverse. Attack blockers, wheat stalks strong enough to function as lockpicks, status ailment cures - where has this stuff been all her Metaverse career?

She reaches for a pack of eggplant seedlings at the same time as someone else, and looks up to find - herself. Sort of. Maybe a little younger, definitely a little gothier - definitely, if Haru is any judge of her own face, a lot more burned by the world.

Her counterpart smiles, too brief and more amused than genuinely happy. "I really should have expected this, after I heard I was here twice."

"I hadn't heard that," Haru says, wondering who they've both talked to (or more likely, which version of Akechi-kun they've both talked to).

"Lucky me, then. Well, at least we can use our code names for clarity - 'Noir' is a little on the nose, don't you think?"

"That - that was the point." Haru's mind is racing. That answers one question, as she doubts Shujin Akechi or the Ren who helped her apartment-hunt would know that detail offhand, and raises about a million more. She decides to start with a simple and useful one. "What did you choose?"

"Rose," her counterpart says, after a moment too long's hesitation.

"No, you didn't."

"There's a half-dozen versions of my only friend here and none of them are mine. Can you blame me for keeping some information in reserve?"

"...No, I suppose I can't." And that answers several of Haru's unasked questions. Yusuke-kun did say once that any one of them could have taken a dark path, if they'd lacked support. She just tries not to think about how close she came to that.

Well, if their meeting place is any indication, at least her love for plants survived whatever hell her counterpart's father unleashed (even in her complicated feelings, Haru has no doubt he was ultimately responsible; there was a time she would have done anything for his approval).

"It's curious." Rose's attention is back on the rack of seedlings. "Why only four varieties of the paprika, when there are eight elements to shield from?"

"You know, that's a good question. Do you... think we could grow the other four?"

Rose grins, sharp and delighted in equal measure. "I don't see why we shouldn't try."

With their shopping done, the girls have decamped to the upturned crates outside Souzai Daigaku, the better to compare notes on their respective experiences. Bother?

[Goro doesn't know how he got here with the weird man with the big nose who seems weirdly worried for a stranger, and he mostly just knows that he really needs to Get Home, because that's what he was doing before he was here.

So he heads out of the door that feels like it should go where home is, and... promptly feels overwhelmingly lost. Tokyo is BIG, after all! And there's so, so many people...

But Goro is Strong and Brave and he didn't like the blue room so instead he can currently be found wandering around Shibuya and trying to find somewhere familiar.]

[It's been an eventful day at the Dojima house. The arrival of a new, even younger Goro Akechi meant a lot of rearrangements had to be done. Especially considering the two youngest Akechis wheeled home an entire shopping cart of assorted things.

Now there's a video console hooked up to the TV, a whole slew of new books, a stack of boardgames tucked away in one of the cabinets, and one very loud toy gun.

The biggest surprise, of course, was that the other teenage Akechi actually came over to assist with dinner...

And now there's a sizable helping of sweet and sour pork, rice, and a smashed cucumber salad to enjoy. There's even a box of chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.

But one thing Akechi apparently did not account for was that Igor would spread the word.

So now, those passing in the Velvet Room may hear of a family banquet and may even get encouragement to bring meals to share. What was going to be a chance for the "Akechi Alliance" and the little Akira to get to know each other may spiral into something bigger.

The door is unlocked to the Dojima house, or if you're more polite than that, you could even knock.]

The room is weird, and blue, and full of scary furniture and a very scary man, with a nose that doesn't even look real, who's said nice things, but Goro's mom told him not to trust strangers. He doesn't even know where his mom is. Or where he is. The man tried to tell him that, but it didn't make any sense.

His mom told him once that if he ever got lost, he should stay in one place. So he sits against the wall, hugging his knees, and tries to swallow down his sobs. Adults don't like it when he cries. Even his mom is less patient with it lately. The man at the desk is scary enough already; Goro doesn't want to make him mad.

He just wants his mom. He wants to go home. But he has a sinking feeling that his mom won't find him here.

But someone else might find him. If they enter the Velvet Room, they might stumble upon a six-year-old Goro Akechi in worn clothes, curled up in a little ball, crying quietly.
