vrdr_mods: (Beary Christmas!)
[personal profile] vrdr_mods
The freeze hasn't let up, and everything's still covered in snow. But Christmas is getting closer, the construction is over, and Christmas markets have popped up in Iwatodai, Inaba Shopping District, and Station Square. As well as the decorations from last week, strange little stalls, shaped like houses, are everywhere!

They sell every craft you can think of, from jewellery and woollen goods, to ceramics and statuary, to handcrafted chocolates and candied fruit. Or are they handcrafted?—the stalls are all manned by suspiciously cheery Shadows. Either way, take a look—you never know what you might find! And you probably need a gift....

Some of the stalls sell food, too—not just takoyaki, okonomiyaki, yakisoba and the like, but all sorts of hot cakes and pancakes, and nuts candied while you watch. Don't burn your fingers! There's also, for some reason, a particularly large stall selling German-style wursts. There are hot drinks, too—Black Frosts in knitted scarves are distributing steaming cocoa and coffee from great vats with ladles. Weird, but okay.

Any shop you go into will have something festive. But Junes, in particular, has a Teddie outside, ringing a bell, dressed as a reindeer. Wish him a beary Christmas? Inside, far in the back, there's a grotto, not unlike the Hallowe'en haunted house (though better lit). At the end you'll find Santa, on a huge throne, flanked by two King Frosts with their fixed grins. Okay, it's Igor. It's Igor, in a Santa suit. But he'll probably still have a present for you.

Lastly, shops calling themselves KFC have popped up all over. Themed in bright blue, their logo bears (shush, Teddie) another of those fixed grins, and the legend "King Frost Chicken". Inside, you can order the classic King Frost Christmas bucket, which gets you enough fried chicken for several people, along with a salad, a chocolate cake, and a commemorative plate picturing King Frost dressed as Santa, handing out suspiciously drumstick-shaped presents.

elsewhere

Besides the Christmas lights everywhere, you'll find that Shadows, demons, zombies, and other foes seem reluctant to fight you. Instead, they're singing Christmas carols, often in groups, with varying levels of skill. If you're nice to them, perhaps they'll reward you with a present?

  • The Dark Hour is slightly less ominous, with giant gift boxes instead of coffins; try not to think too hard about it.

  • The TV world has giftboxes instead of chests—but don't get too greedy, or you might summon a grumpy abominable snow Shadow.

  • In Mementos, instead of the rattling of chains that announce the Reaper, perhaps you'll hear a jingle of bells and meet Santa Claus instead! Play your cards right, and he might even let you ride in his sleigh...
[OOC note: Mods will not be NPCing Igor, Teddie, or the miscellaneous Shadows! You're free to NPC them however you please. Secret Santa assignments will be going out in the next half-hour.]
